Using welding symbols in drawings

Setting the default directory for welding symbols

When you place a welding symbol in a drawing, you are creating an instance of a generic symbol. The symbol file is located in the symbol library on the hard drive of your workstation. To simplify the symbol placement process, set the directory path to the symbol library as follows:

  1. From the tool bar at the top of the Pro/Engineer screen, choose Utilities > Preferences > Edit Config.
  2. Type config.pro (the local configuration file) in the text box at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Press enter to begin editing the file in Pro/Table.
  4. When the Pro/Table window appears, press F4 to display a list of configuration file options.
  5. Select pro_symbol_dir.
  6. Enter the directory for the welding symbol library in the right hand column. The current directory is, c:\ptc\proe2000i\symbols\library_syms\weldsymlib \ansi_weld\simple.
  7. Chose File > Exit at the top left of the window. This will exit and automatically save the changes you made to the config.pro file.
  8. Exit and restart Pro/Engineer or choose Utilities > Preferences > Load Config from the tool bar.

  10. Edit text variables selected in step 8 by typing new values into the text boxes.

  16. Select Done from the Menu Manager.
  17. Position the pointer in the drawing and click to place the body of the symbol. Note that the status indicator in the dialog box indicates the symbol is fully defined.
  18. To edit the symbol select Move, Move Text, Mod Attach… , or Move Origin… from the dialog box.
  19. Click the New Inst button to add another symbol.
